Teaching Excellence Framework
We are proud to have been recently awarded the Gold Standard under the Teaching Excellence Framework.
The Teaching Excellence Framework Panel judged that Middlesbrough College "delivers consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It is of the highest quality found in the UK." The report also stated that Middlesbrough College offered "optimum levels of contact time and class sizes, provided for students who are well supported by their tutors, underpinned by a comprehensive, proactive and flexible academic and pastoral support programme".
The programme runs in an exciting £68m music & performance facility at Middlehaven in the centre of Middlesbrough that is unique in the north-east. The facility features three recording studios connected to five control rooms (two equipped for surround sound), the largest of which can hold an orchestra.

Studios are equipped with industry standard Avid Pro Tools HDX systems (MacPro hosted) and Avid S6 and C|24 control surfaces offering 256 simultaneous audio tracks at 96 kHz and incredibly low monitoring latency of 0.7 ms. Studios also offer Pro Tools HD, Apple Logic, Ableton Live Suite, MAX (including MAX For Live), Reason, an Audient iD14, Genelec and PMC monitoring as well as a Slate Raven MTi2. Microphones include offerings from Blue, SE Electronics, Neumann, AKG, Sennheiser, DPA, Oktava, Samson, Shure to name but a few!

As an Avid Academic Learning Partner, members of the course team have been trained by Avid, the makers of prolific digital audio workstation Pro Tools in order to be qualified to deliver their official training courses as part of the B.Sc. (Hons) Sound and Music Technology. You become an officially qualified Pro Tools User by taking the industry recognised Pro Tools User exam as part of your degree, and this exam is at no extra cost!
Authorised Learning Partner status also ensures that all workstations and recording studios are running the latest version of Pro Tools to ensure you are taught on the most up to date software with the latest features available to professionals in the music and post production industries.
You will be taught by our HE music technology team - enthusiastic industry practitioners Kendall Wrightson, Shaun Martin, Rob Bullard, Chris Allen, Jack Laidlaw and Jamie Donnelly - with a diverse range of experience and interests.
The emphasis is on project-based learning and linking theory with practice.
Modules are delivered in the facilities described above (with more info here) and are supported by lectures and tutorials.
Assessment includes practical work, working with real clients as well as solo and group presentations and written assignments.
